EXERCISE AND THE AIRPLANE TRAVELER.
Author A.S. Padgett
Long haul flights, indeed any time sitting in a static posture will inevitably produce stiffness in the joints \ muscles of the body.
These exercises are aimed at reducing the unpleasant feeling of stiffness and soreness during a flight. They will also help to relieve the boredom! Ensure that when you perform the exercises as described that you do not produce pain and that you breathe correctly. With the more recently published information about deep vein thrombosis (DVT) that some people have experienced, these exercises support the medical advice of keeping relatively active during a flight.

EXERCISE POSITIONING
As far as possible try to sit with your hands on your lap not touching each other, your knees apart a little and your feet resting on the floor in a comfortable position also not touching each other.

FREQUENCY
You should aim to do the exercise routine once every two hours.
Each exercise should be done twice. However the ankle and toes exercise can be done three or four times.
In addition you should try to get up once every 45 minutes and stretch the body.
It would not be feasible to get up and walk that often as that would mean that the whole compliment of passengers would be walking around the plane with the obvious potential hazard.
